Intro

Welcome to the YOUnique learning environment!

We created a set of theme based teaching resources aimed at improving the literacy achievements of at-risk students. The resources contain everything teachers need to teach and assess Achievement Standards. They also include professional development materials on these topics.

The YOUnique methodology recognises that E-Learning is the method of the future and provides students with these skills while engaging and empowering them in their learning.

The structure of this resource means that students can exercise comprehensive choice within the scope of the theme to demonstrate their individual strengths, mastery of skills and progress and achievement in their
learning. Students can follow the programme of study at their own pace and there is scope within the tasks to meet the learning needs of a wide range of abilities within the one class – from students with significant learning difficulties or disengaged from school to the gifted and talented.

Each disk is a forward thinking and state of the art resource that acknowledges the growing dependence of teaching and learning on information technology. It readily uses all the learning styles to promote engagement of students, provides a user friendly resource for teachers and encourages students in
self-directed study habits.

It has detailed and scaffolded lesson planning, with tasks and assessment work aligned to existing NCEA Achievement Standards and NZQA Unit Standards. It has explicit links to the Strands, Achievement Objectives and Key Competencies as expressed in the New Zealand Curriculum.

These resources provide a practical means and answer to implementing teaching and the nature of the underlying theme of this resource explicitly incorporates values and attitudes into what is learnt in a meaningful way.

The OVERALL ACHIEVEMENT OBJECTIVE of this programme is that students finish this series of disks with an E-portfolio that provides a comprehensive multimedia record of their work meeting Literacy requirements. This evidence is specifically linked to the numbered NCEA Achievement Standards and NZQA Unit Standards that the students will have achieved.
